About the photographer
My interest in photography was first
piqued as a young teenager when I lived on a rural property near Goulburn
in southern NSW. My hobby was keenly supported by an uncle, who not only
provided much expert advice and encouragement but also came to the rescue
with an array of equipment, including an enlarger, a SLR camera and some
lenses.
In
1979 I moved to Alice Springs in central Australia where I continued
to photograph everything that moved and the occasional object that didn’t.
During the past twenty five years I have contributed
images for general interest books, calendars, postcards, brochures, advertising
promotions and educational books and displays both in Australia and overseas.
Today, I live near Toowoomba in south-eastern Queensland
and recently wrote and illustrated a book on dangerous Australian wildlife; released by Thomas Lothian Publishers in 2004.
Like most wildlife photographers, I care about my subjects and have always had
a deep and abiding commitment to conservation. My conservation passion
is undoubtedly bats (including flying foxes). From 1998 to early 2002
Bruce was President of the Australasian Bat Society and continues to play
an active role with the Society. In 2005 I even mad enough to embark upon a PhD with the University of Queensland, studying the social ecology of some small insect-eating bats (Chocolate Wattled Bats) at the Bunya Mountains in southeast Queensland.
This website provides me with an opportunity to share
some of my images and through them, some insights into Australia’s
natural heritage. Fine art Australian wildlife photographs of selected
images are available for purchase. Some of you will be familiar with the
subjects presented here while others will be viewing at least some of
these animals and landscapes for the first time. Whatever the case may
be, I hope you enjoy your visit.
